Meet Michaela Merrick, the ultimate food entrepreneur. After a decade in the service industry, Michaela was laid off during the COVID pandemic. Rather than waiting for new opportunities, she created her own. In May 2020, she launched Pretty Little Tacos, a Creole-Mexican street taco concept, at Triton Yards, a southwest Atlanta food truck park.
Opening at the height of the pandemic came with challenges, but Michaela quickly built a loyal following by focusing on high-quality food. Seeing a gap in Atlanta’s taco scene, she introduced birria tacos—rich beef tacos dipped in flavorful broth—becoming a city favorite. She also pioneered the fusion birria movement by launching oxtail birria in 2020.
In 2021, Michaela opened a stall at Politan Row and soon became its top-selling vendor. Pretty Little Tacos is best known for birria but also serves street taco favorites like chicken, oxtail, shrimp, and steak. The menu includes vegan options and dessert tacos such as peach cobbler and strawberry shortcake.
With a sharp eye for trends and memorable dining experiences, Michaela continues to expand Pretty Little Tacos across greater Atlanta. In February 2024, she opened the first brick-and-mortar location with a full bar at 45 Moreland Ave in Reynoldstown, further cementing her influence on Atlanta’s dynamic food scene.
